Important notice regarding the sunset of the GreatDocs™ Reader

Over the past few years, there has been a growing demand for PDF files in the bundling and shipping of mortgage documents. GreatDocs has supported the creation of PDF files for over four years while at the same time, offered our proprietary PKG format. The widespread adoption of the PDF format along with the free distribution of Adobe’s reader has significantly reduced the utilization of the PKG format. We have made the decision to discontinue the development of our PKG files as of December 31st, 2007.
 
Support will continue through March 31, 2008 to accommodate loan origination system ("LOS") providers’ release schedules. After this date, all calls received in our support center regarding our package files will be directed back to respective LOS providers for delivery options.
 
You can continue to use the PKG format indefinitely as our reader may be made available for distribution from your institution’s or your LOS provider’s site; however, we encourage you to fully use the PDF format as soon as is beneficial to your business.

 

 


INTRODUCTION

This document provides you with quick reference information for the installation, use and troubleshooting of the GreatDocs Reader. This brief document includes the following:

 
What is the GreatDocs Reader?
GreatDocs™ Reader is the required application for accessing *.PKG files.  The application opens, previews and prints loan package (*.PKG) files.  Please forward a copy of this document to your Network Administrator so they can set up the GreatDocs™ Reader application on your workstation.

System Requirements
Here are the minimum requirements to install and run GreatDocs™Reader:
  • Pentium-class processor
  • One of these operating systems: Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 5 or 6 (Service Pack 6 recommended), Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional or Home Edition. (Microsoft Windows 95 is not supported.)
  • 32 MB of RAM (64 MB recommended)
  • 5 MB of available hard-disk space
  • Users need ‘Power User’ or ‘Admin’ permissions to the local drive.  A new GreatDocs™Reader download installs to below noted location and also registers files at launch.

INSTALLING GREATDOCS™READER
  • Download and install the GreatDocs™Reader
  • Choose Download GreatDocs™Reader icon.
  • Follow the instructions on each screen to install the software. All necessary files are copied automatically during installation.
  • Choose Open when prompted to Save or Open.
  • The Install Shield Wizard should appear. Choose Next.
  • The Install Shield Wizard for GreatDocs 2 screen should appear.
  • If the Customer Information fields are not pre-filled correctly, please complete or make corrections to the requested information.
  • Choose Next. Choose Complete for the Setup Type. Choose Next.
  • Choose Install on the Ready to Install Program screen.
  • Choose Finish on the Install Wizard Completed screen.
 
OPENING AND PRINTING A DOCUMENT PACKAGE FILE
After installation is complete, open the document package file that should be attached to an e-mail. Double-click on the attached file. This should open the GreatDocs™Reader.

  • On the left side of the screen, there will be a list of numbers. Under Information, select the first number in the list.
  • Choose File > Print All. This will print the entire document package.
  • If the e-mail attachment does not open: Try double-clicking the icon and saving the file to a directory on your PC, such as My Documents.
  • Write down the path and file name where the file is located. The file should have a .PKG extension.
  • Choose Start > Programs > Harland Financial Solutions, Inc. > GreatDocs™Reader to open the application.
  • Choose File > Open Package. Browse to the directory where you saved the document package. Select the correct file and Open.
  • To print, choose File > Print All. This will print the entire document package.
 
Q&A -TROUBLESHOOTING GreatDocs PACKAGE (*.PKG) ISSUES
 
Q1: LINK ERROR - You received an email from a financial institution with the GreatDocs™Reader link, however when clicking on the link you receive an error and are not able to download the
GreatDocs™Reader application.
A: The correct GreatDocs™ Reader link should be: http://www.greatdocs.com/Reader/. Instructions for downloading and installing the GreatDocs™ Reader are listed at that site.
 
Q2: NOT SURE HOW TO OPEN - You are not sure how to open the GreatDocs™Reader application after downloading it from the website.
A: GreatDocs™Reader is located off of Start > Programs > Harland Financial Solutions, Inc. > GreatDocs™Reader.  Operating instructions are also available on the GreatDocs™Reader website.
 
Q3: HOW TO OPEN A PKG - You have received an email with an attached Loan Document Package (PKG file) and you are not sure how to open the PKG file in GreatDocs™Reader.
A: Double click on the attached PKG file on the email you received from the financial institution. If that does not work you will need to copy the attachment from the email and save to a folder. Then open the GreatDocs™Reader, go to File > Open Package, and redirect it to the folder where you saved the PKG file.
 
Q4: INCOMPLETE PACKAGE OR PASSWORD PROTECTED - You received a package (PKG) that was incomplete or password protected.
A:  If you need to request a complete package or a password to open the package you received, you will need to contact the financial institution that sent the package to you.  Check the email for a return address or contact name and number.
 
Note: Harland Financial Solutions - GreatDocs does not send out the loan package (PKG) files.  We support the GreatDocs™Reader and other Harland Financial Solutions applications.  
 
Q5: EMAIL RE: PACKAGE DOWNLOAD - You received an email indicating that you should go to the GreatDocs™Reader website to download your package.
A: The GreatDocs™Reader website will only contain the Harland Financial Solutions GreatDocs™Reader application.  Harland Financial Solutions cannot post the loan packages to our application website.  All loan packages come directly from the financial institution.  The email you received referencing the loan package will likely contain appropriate identification and contact information for the financial institution.  Please call them for the package.
 
Q6: WARNING RE: VIRUS FOR HOTMAIL - You have received an email with an attached package; however, when you attempt to download the package you receive a warning noting that the package contains a virus.
A: You should always review virus alerts; however, we have found that customers with MSN Hotmail accounts seem to be receiving a false virus alert when receiving packages (see error message below).

 
We believe this is a setting within the MSN Hotmail account. The financial institutions have checked for viruses and found none. We have also tested here at Harland Financial Solutions and have not encountered any virus errors.

Hotmail automatically scans attachments using Trend Micro products.

NOTE: THERE IS NO CURE AVAILABLE FOR THE VIRUS ON THE FILE ###########.PKG.
 
IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO DOWNLOAD FILES FROM HOTMAIL THAT CONTAIN INCURABLE VIRUSES. CONTACT THE ORIGINATOR OF THE FILES, INFORM THEM THAT THE FILE CONTAINS A VIRUS, AND ASK THEM TO SEND A VIRUS-FREE VERSION OF THE FILE.
